Navigating the trillion-dollar shift: How Lexden Luxe is redefining UHNW yachting experiences

At the Cluster Yachting Monaco Winter Pop Up on 9 October 2025, held at the Monaco Yacht Club, Prof. Dr. Phil Klaus, Co-founder of Lexden Luxe delivered a keynote that reframed how the yachting industry must prepare for the next generation of UHNW customers.

He shared exclusive insights drawn from over 400 UHNW touchpoints across continents. His message was clear: the yachting industry is standing at the edge of a trillion-dollar transformation and only those who understand tomorrow’s customers today will lead it.

From Research to Insights to Actions

Lexden Luxe’s unique methodology bridges academic research with real-world transformation. Through its proprietary Diamond Data insights, the firm analyses the evolving expectations of UHNWIs and translates them into actionable strategies for luxury brands and yacht builders.

The process unfolds across three stages:

  • Diamond data: gathering proprietary insights from more than 400 UHNWI touchpoints;
  • Trend translation: identifying actionable opportunities for growth and differentiation;
  • Strategic acceleration: applying frameworks such as MEPA (Managing Expectations, Extraordinary Experiences, Post-Purchase Care, Achieving Time Savings) to help clients deliver the perfect experience.

“Turning insight into impact is what defines our work,” Prof. Klaus emphasised. “Luxury also relates to how fast you can transform that knowledge into meaningful experiences.”

Next Practice: beyond best practice

In today’s dynamic yachting landscape, Lexden Luxe challenges the notion of “best practice.” Instead, it advocates for “next practice”, a forward-looking mindset rooted in innovation, foresight, and continuous reinvention.

Prof. Klaus identified three defining shifts shaping the future of UHNW yachting.

The rise of the new gatekeepers

The decision-making ecosystem in yachting has never been more complex – or more influential. Prof. Klaus revealed how family offices, designers, architects, managers, and lawyers now hold decisive power in approving ownership, refit, and charter decisions.

These professionals act as trusted gatekeepers, safeguarding clients’ interests while shaping the overall yachting experience. Their influence extends beyond transaction management to experience design, brand reputation, and loyalty creation.

In this evolving environment, understanding and engaging these new intermediaries is key to winning trust and, ultimately, business.

Wake up to AI

The second major transformation is technological. By 2030, 70% of UHNW yacht charter bookings are expected to involve AI-driven touchpoints.

AI’s value lies in its ability to enhance human touch, not replace it. From hyper-personalisation (learning a client’s culinary, musical, or wellness preferences) to effortless chartering and connected luxury, AI is redefining how UHNWIs interact with brands.

The future yacht will be a digital ecosystem integrated with a guest’s lifestyle, from smart homes and private jets to curated events. The concept of the “invisible concierge” exemplifies this evolution. Anticipating needs before they’re expressed, ensuring every detail feels intuitive and effortlessly personal.

As Prof. Klaus put it, “AI is structurally linked to empathy delivered at scale.”

Asia is coming – and they’re not waiting for you

The fastest-growing region in global yachting is Asia-Pacific, projected to double in size by 2033. Within this market, South Korea stands out as a powerhouse, driven by Hallyu (the Korean Wave) and a generation of digitally native UHNWIs.

Korean clients rank among the world’s top luxury spenders per capita, but what distinguishes them is their desire for experiential, hyper-personalised, and tech-integrated luxury. They are setting new benchmarks for how exclusivity, service, and design are defined.

Prof. Klaus’s message was clear: “Asia is not following Western luxury but it’s leading the next wave.”

Let’s shape the future of yachting together.
