Lexden Luxe was invited for a keynote at Hanyang University in Seoul.
Our Head of Insights Prof. Dr. Phil Klaus delivered a message that challenged many of the long-standing assumptions surrounding luxury and UHNWIs. The HYU C&T Global Scholar Special Lecture, titled Beyond Wealth: What the Next Generation of UHNWIs Will Truly Value, explored how the future of luxury is shifting toward invisible value.
The lecture reflected a broader transformation already reshaping the luxury ecosystem. In private aviation, hospitality, yachting, automotive and luxury real estate ownership alone is losing relevance. Access, time efficiency, protected ecosystems and emotional meaning are becoming the new markers of relevance.
A new, invisible value
For decades, luxury was largely defined through acquisition. Rare watches, supercars, yachts and branded residences represented achievement and social positioning. Yet the next generation of UHNWIs appears to be moving toward something more discreet and experience-driven.
The framework presented during the lecture described a new equation of value:
– Time over assets
– Access over ownership
– Ecosystems over standalone products
– Meaning over visibility
This shift is particularly relevant as younger wealthy consumers inherit unprecedented levels of wealth over the coming decade. Their expectations are increasingly shaped by personalised convenience and digital fluency rather than traditional status symbols.
The rise of new gatekeepers
One of the most important themes discussed was the changing structure of influence around UHNWIs.
Decision-making depends on a growing ecosystem of gatekeepers now shaping purchasing behaviour, loyalty and lifestyle choices. Family offices and advisors influence investments, residency and ownership strategies. Personal assistants and coaches often become trusted operational decision-makers. Lifestyle curators and private clubs increasingly shape travel, wellness and social experiences. Designers, entrepreneurs and digital creators influence aspiration and cultural relevance.
For luxury brands, this means the customer journey has become significantly more complex. They need to understand both the client and the surrounding ecosystem influencing the client’s decisions.
AI as the infrastructure of luxury CX
Another major focus of the lecture was the role of AI in the future of luxury customer experience.
The argument was direct: brands that fail to integrate AI meaningfully into their service ecosystems risk becoming irrelevant.
By 2030, a large proportion of UHNWI service interactions will involve AI-supported touchpoints. AI is positioned as an enabler of hyper-personalisation and anticipatory service to:
– Tailor experiences around individual preferences in cuisine, wellness, music and design
– Simplify complex travel and lifestyle planning
– Integrate luxury offerings into connected digital lifestyles
– Predict needs before the client explicitly communicates them
This evolution aligns closely with the growing expectation for effortless luxury. The most valuable experiences are increasingly the ones that remove friction entirely.
Invisible concierge services may soon become more desirable than visible displays of exclusivity.
Asia as leading luxury hub
Asia-Pacific is projected to become one of the dominant growth regions for luxury over the coming decade. South Korea in particular is a market of growing influence due to its cultural impact, digital sophistication and rapidly evolving luxury consumer base.
The influence of Hallyu, often referred to as the Korean Wave, continues to shape global aspiration across fashion, beauty, entertainment and lifestyle sectors. At the same time, younger UHNWIs across Asia are increasingly digitally native and experience-oriented.
This creates a different type of luxury consumer:
– Globally connected
– Highly informed
– Culturally influential
– Less impressed by traditional signals of wealth
For international luxury brands, the implication is significant.
Forget heritage and loud showcase of wealth. Think relevance, adaptability and ecosystem integration.
Become the brand that saves time most effectively, understands clients most deeply and integrates most naturally into the lifestyles of UHNWIs.
